Pyschid
This design document was once implemented, but has since been removed from Ephemeral Space.
The following reason was given for its removal: "Not super disruptive but generally just unreasonably difficult to counter. Since any kill guarantees a conversion, there's no feasible way to remove them from the round short of just locking them inside a 1x1 box. Even though killing parasites is intentionally discouraged, their effects need some form of mitigation, otherwise, there's just nothing you can do about them, even when identified."
Name: Psychid
Organization: Parasite
Archetypes: Jester, Converter
Description: Steal the bodies of others to perpetuate the parasitic infection.
Objectives: None.
Masquerade notes: N/A
That's a nice corporeal form you have there. Would be a shame if someone stole it from you.
Concept
The psychid is a stealthy parasite secret identity that is focused on stealing bodies and pretending to be others in order to slowly spread the infection.
Abilities
On death, the psychid will be revived and swap bodies with their killer. Their killer will then become a psychid themselves, spreading the infection further.
Gameplay
The psychid is a stealthy parasite that tests the crew's knowledge of each other. Although the killer and the original psychid are allied and both parasites after the kill occurs, their swapped bodies make them highly suspicious. The two parasites may want to try and exchange relevant info in order to better disguise as each other.
Once the crew becomes aware of the presence of a psychid, it becomes a major source of paranoia, as the crew are forced to "check" each other in order to root out who the psychid is. The nature of the conversion also means that if the psychid dies away from its killer, it may be forced into a completely different body with no context for its current situation.
